OVER 1500 people were removed from South Dublin County Council’s housing list, the council heard at their monthly meeting.

Councillor Paul Foley had put down a question asking how many people were removed from the housing allocations list on the basis of not filling out the Housing Needs Assessment form. He also asked what efforts were made to contact these people and a statement be made on the matter.

The Council replied that the most recent Social Housing Assessments were carried out in 2016 and 2017. In 2016, 7,174 applications were reassessed and 1,438 applications were removed from the social housing waiting list for failure to reply to the SHA representing 20% of those re-assessed. Of the non-responders, 216 had their files reopened with no loss of time on the list.

In 2017, 478 applications were reassessed and of these, 86 applications were removed from the list for failure to reply to the SHA. Of the non-responders, 19 had their files reopened with no loss of time on the list.

The Council added that they issue two letters in connection with the SHA, an initial letter and a follow-up to those who have not responded. They also advertise in the local newspapers and on their website.
