Permission granted for new Aldi store in Ballymount
ALDI have been granted permission for a new store in Ballymount.
The plans include the demolition of an existing warehouse/factory building (3,490sq.m) and the construction of a single storey Aldi store at CHM premises on the Ballymount Road Lower.
The planning application was submitted on the store’s behalf by RL Properties, and was granted permission by South Dublin County Council on July 10.
Up to 30 local residents from Walkinstown Crescent made a submission during the planning process, raising concerns about the validity of a supermarket in a densely populated area.
Social Democrat Councillor Dermot Looney submitted an objection, citing his belief that the site should form part of the upcoming Ballymount local area plan.
Musgrave Operating Partners Ireland (MOPI) of Lucan submitted an objection, citing it “premature” with regard to the upcoming local area plan, and concerns about traffic and the location of the site.
The plans contain proposals for a single storey food store with off-licence measuring 1,785sq.m gross floor space with a net retail sales area of 1,254sq.m.
A relocated vehicular access is contained in the plans, as is surface parking for 99 cars and 10 bicycle parking stands.
