Permission granted to extend bicycle and pedestrian facility

By Aideen O’Flaherty

PERMISSION has been granted for plans to extend bicycle and pedestrian facilities, and to create a new ‘left in, left out’ junction on the N7 for revised gateway access, for the Red Cow Luas Park and Ride in Clondalkin.

The plans were submitted to South Dublin County Council by Hibernia Reit in March, to include the closure of the existing ‘left in, left out’ junction serving the park and ride on the N7, in order to facilitate the development of new internal access roads and a roundabout, with shared access for both cyclists and pedestrians.

The submission contained details of the proposed development of an extended merge lane of 254 metres, including an extension to a segregation island along the southern side of the N7 Naas Road.

There were provisions for a new relocated bus stop, a revised access arrangement to Gas Networks Ireland for installation, and all associated and ancillary works, including the demolition of the former SDS warehouse building.

Provisions for site development works were included in the application, namely landscaping, lighting, drainage and attenuation works, to include an attenuation basin and surface water to lands location in the adjacent Newlands Cross Cemetery on lands located to the east of the Red Cow Luas Park and Ride depot adjacent to the L1019.

The council granted permission for the development last month, with a number of conditions.

The developer must be responsible for the maintenance, repair and upkeep of the bus stop while it’s in the public realm, and facilities will need to provided for litter disposal as part of the conditions of the grant of permission.
