Personal trainer from Tallaght hopes website will be Golden Pages of health and fitness
By Aideen O'Flaherty
A LOCAL personal trainer has set up a website that she hopes will become “the Golden Pages of health and fitness”.
Tallaght native Janice Green recently set up Fit List, an online directory of all of the gyms, sports studios, fitness classes and sports clubs in Dublin, with plans to expand nationwide.
The website currently has over 350 listings, and website users can search the directory by choosing their location in Dublin.
The website also contains an interactive element, where members can ask health and fitness professionals questions about their own training regime and nutrition.
“There’s a public platform where you can ask a question and a qualified professional can reply,” Ms Green told The Echo.
“There’s also a closed-off section of the site where people can ask the personal trainers questions privately.”
Ms Green, who studied personal training at the National Training Centre on Dorset Street, said she came up with the idea to create the directory when she realised the scarcity of channels for qualified fitness advice, both for professionals and the general public.
“I had a friend of a friend who wanted me to train her, and she was very obese.
“I wanted advice from other personal trainers, but I didn’t know where to go.”
There are also plans for the website to offer advice and information through regularly updated blog posts from a varied range of professionals, including dieticians and fitness instructors.
The listings website has already generated interest from dozens of fitness professionals, and Ms Green is encouraging anyone with an interest to get involved with the website’s offerings.
“The website is a platform for everyone interested in fitness.
“Don’t be afraid to ask a question, the professionals are there to help.
“Don’t be afraid to get involved.”
The website is free for the general public to get involved in, while there is a fee for fitness professionals who would like to post blogs and content to the site.
You can find out more about the website online at www.fitlist.ie, or follow FitList on Facebook.
