Planning lodged for Gaelscoil
THE planning application for a new, three-storey permanent school building for Gaelscoil Cnoc Liamhna has been lodged with South Dublin County Council.
After a 20 year campaign for a dedicated school building, the parents, teachers and students of the Knocklyon-based Gaelscoil are celebrating a planning application for a dedicated school building on the current site being finally lodged.

Over the years, Scoil Cnoc Liamhna has been operating out of a ‘temporary’ school campus made up of 16 prefabs – with no PE hall.
A section of the old Knocklyon Road, which was closed when the M50 was built, ran through the school grounds.
This strip of land had no title deed on it, which had to be established before the Department could purchase the land for the construction of a new school.
Over the years, the school community campaigned for this issue to be rectified by the council and the Department, with the decades-old issue being resolved earlier this year.
A planning application has now been lodged with the council for a three storey, permanent primary school building containing 16 en-suite classrooms, one general purpose room, one library/resource room, one multi-purpose room and three special education tuition rooms.
The planning application also provides for a roof garden, PV solar panels, two ball courts, junior play areas, car parking for staff and visitors and the formation of a drop-off bay for ten cars.
The proposed planning also includes the realignment of access road and junction from Knocklyon Road including shared cycle/pedestrian paths.
The applicant on the planning permission is the Minister for Education and Skills, with a decision due by South Dublin County Council by December 5.
