Plowman leads the Dublin Juniors to All-Ireland final

DUBLIN Premier Junior Camogie manager Shane Plowman was delighted with his team’s performance in the All-Ireland semi-final in the Gaelic Grounds, Limerick recently.

The Dubs booked their place in the All-Ireland final after seeing off Kerry 1-12 to 0-9 for a September final date – the first time that the capital will place in a final since 2005.

“I’m absolutely delighted for the girls to reach the final,” said Thomas Davis clubmanPlowman who runs the side with fellow clubman Nollaig Ryan, Willie Braine and Ann Colgan.

“The girls have put in a massive effort this year. We started back early this year in preparation for the season and all the hard work has paid off.

“We have a completely new panel this year and only two players from last season are in this year’s squad which is a huge achievement.”

Plowman only took over as manager of the Dublin Premier team last season having managed a number of hurling teams at Thomas Davis.

He has seen an improvement in the Dublin camogie teams over the past few seasons and the county is starting to reap rewards.

“There is huge work going on with underage teams. The minor and Under 16 teams have done well this year and the county senior team is in the All-Ireland semi-final this weekend. There is a great buzz at the moment and all the hard work is showing on the pitch”.

The Dubs win over Kerry was impressive. A goal early in the second half through Evelyn Twomey proved crucial as only a point separated the teams at that stage.

Patrice Diggin kept the Kingdom in the contest with a couple of fine points while Dublin captain Emer Keenan from Lucan Sarsfields always looked dangerous going forward.

The goal was crucial for Dublin as Kerry applied the pressure in the second half and they were eventually awarded a penalty which Diggins took but was superbly stopped by Ashling Spillane.

St Jude’s Emma Barron worked hard in the half backs during this vital period as the Dubs hung on for a well-deserved win.

“The goal was crucial in the second half,” said the Dubs boss.

“This was Kerry’s first team and they are a very good side and to get that score was the turning point. They piled on the pressure and we did great to save the penalty.

“We are looking forward to the final.

“It’s going to be a huge occasion and the curtain raiser to the senior All-Ireland, so it should be a great day. Hopefully we can get good support on the day for the team and this would certainly add to the occasion,” he said.

Also in the Dublin side are Sinead Nolan (St Jude’s), Eimear O’Riordan (St Jude’s) and Emma O’Flynn (Lucan).
