A CHEEVERSTOWN House service user celebrated an employment milestone recently, where he was presented with a long service award for working for Exterion Media for over 20 years.

Anthony Kehoe (53) started working for the Clondalkin-based outdoor advertising company in 1997 through a supported employment scheme that is run by Cheeverstown House, who help people with intellectual disabilities, and has gone on to be a valued and popular member of staff.

Anthony works part-time in the company’s media operations department and has been described as a “key member” of staff, with his work involving the stripping of old advertising copy and assisting in the application of new vinyl.

Joanna Hanlon, a job coach from Cheeverstown House Employment Support Services, told The Echo: “The celebration was brilliant – Anthony is such a popular character and all of his workmates know him and love him.

“Working has given Anthony a sense of pride and a sense of independence.

“It just goes to show how well supported employment can work.”

Great sense of humour

Anthony is known among his colleagues for having a great sense of humour and always being at the centre of workplace banter, and he enjoys completing word searches and drawing when he’s on his lunchbreak.

Colin Leahy, the managing director of Exterion Media, said: “We are proud of Anthony’s contribution and involvement, which is valued within our business.”

Anthony was joined by his colleagues, his family and his support team from Cheeverstown House at his celebratory lunch.
