Dublin Fire Brigade (DFB) tackled a grass fire in the Dodder Valley Park area of Tallaght last night, which resulted in the loss of electricity supply to more than 900 ESB customers due to the fire's proximity to pylons.

Two fire engines from Tallaght and Rathfarnham stations arrived at the scene off the Old Bawn road at approximately 8.30pm yesterday evening (Monday), with electricity out in Old Bawn, Old Court and Killakea, according to reports.

In a statement to The Echo this morning, Dublin Fire Brigade (DFB) said that “no injuries [were] reported on scene”.

DFB added: "Electricity was knocked out to the nearby shops and area, including traffic lights, until ESB Networks arrived."

Speaking to The Echo, an ESB Networks representative said: “Dublin Fire Brigade were called out to the fire and at this stage the pole and cable had caught fire.

“This caused a circuit breaker in the Old Bawn station to trip, leaving 967 customers without supply.”

The spokesperson added that customers were reconnected as quickly as possible and that a generator was used to feed 30 customers who remained without power.

According to ESB Networks, the generator continues to be in use today until the required repairs are completed.
