Quarryvale delight over new playspace

THERE was delight in Quarryvale this week as the final design for the new playspace – chosen by the community – was unveiled.
Local residents, staff from the Quarryvale Community and Leisure Centre as well as members of community groups have been liaising with South Dublin County Council about the design for the last number of months.
A wide range of community representatives and residents came together to choose the final design which will be built over the next 12 months.
Quarryvale Community and Leisure Centre manager David Graham was thrilled that the new playspace is finally in progress.
He said: “This design, I believe, will ensure that the playspace will cater for all ages, providing opportunities for those who like to be very active, but it also creates spaces for those who like to relax with family and friends.”
There were a number of community consultation evenings held in the centre throughout March where residents had their say on what should be included in the design.
Community members, staff at the centre and residents then assessed the designs that were tendered before settling on what they believe “best matches” the ideas that were put forward during the community consultation.
David said: “Work on the landscaping elements of the playspace will begin in the next few months, with the play equipment being installed in the spring of 2016 for the opening.”
The development is part of the council’s Five Year Playspace Programme which will see natural play areas for children rolled out across the county over the next five years.
