Rascals Brewing taps into pizzeria plan
By Maurice Garvey
DUBLIN City Council have granted planning permission for Rascals Brewing Company to open a pizzeria at their Inchicore microbrewery.
The company plans to tap into the tourist industry by bringing visitor groups to the microbrewery, with the pizzeria designed to facilitate these tourist groups.
Rascals was formed in 2014 by Emma Devlin and Cathal O’Donoghue.
The pair initially got their venture up and running in Greenogue Business Park in Rathcoole. After building the brand and securing an investor, they moved to a larger premises – a former textile factory in Goldenbridge Industrial Estate.
Last year, Rascals received the go ahead from Dublin City Council to build a microbrewery at the 200 sq m Inchicore site.
According to the plans for the pizzeria, it will have up to four full-time staff and seating for up to 60 people.
The brewery itself will have six full-time staff and is scheduled to host two guided tours per day, via bookings only.
Works to fit out the Inchicore premises are ongoing – no beer has been produced on the two-storey site to date.
When the brewery is in full production, the expected output will be 2,500 hectolitres per year in year one, with a projected rise in output to 3,000hl in year two.
City planners considered the proposed pizzeria development – subject to conditions – would not have a significant negative impact on the amenities of the area and would be in accordance with provisions of the city development plan.
