Recycled plastic benches make yard happier place
THE recent installation of five benches made of recycled plastic in the yard at Tallaght Community National School in Jobstown has made the yard “a happier, safer place”, according to the principal.
The benches, costing €2,500 in total, were sponsored by Sandymark/Greenogue Business Park in Rathcoole and have swiftly become a welcome addition to the schoolyard.
The principal of Tallaght CNS, Conor McCarthy, told The Echo that the benches have provided the opportunity for pupils to sit and chat during lunchtime.
“The children love the new benches,” he said.
“Since their delivery on January 29, they have been the most popular things on the playground.
“The children have been delighted with them and they are making a really positive impact.
“The benches have brightened up our school yard with their colour – they have made our school yard look more fully resourced and appealing.
“Our school yard and lunchtimes were extremely busy and at times stressful for children who prefer a slower, calmer pace at break.
“They allow these children to sit down and relax.
“They give an opportunity and space to children who are looking to have a conversation.
“The benches allow 20 to 25 children to be sitting for some of the break time which provides the rest of the children more space to run and play.
“Overall, they have made our school yard a happier and safer place and we are extremely grateful to Sandymark/Greenogue Business Park for their support.”
This is not the first time that Tallaght CNS, which has 110 pupils and 19 staff, has been supported by local companies and the school community is grateful for the assistance provided.
“Tallaght CNS has been very lucky over the last few years,” added Mr McCarthy.
“We have gotten support from local companies to redevelop our courtyard, to construct a new pond for biodiversity, to erect new school signage, to plant forests and orchards and now to install these new benches made from recycled plastic.”
