Redmond takes important victory
BLACK Panthers Trevor Redmond turned in a very encouraging performance in the first round of national team qualifying at the KBI All-Irelands in Tallaght, beating Patrick Cullen of Elite Kickboxing in the Veterans -74kg Light Contact division.
Redmond has represented his club and country in kickboxing since 1995 and was a former All-Ireland full contact champion with the Black Panthers.
Coaching him to his win at the weekend was club mates Stephen Byrne, Irish champion Martin Kenny and Thomas Bateman.
Redmond’s son Jake is a double All-Ireland (light contact and points fighting) champion at -28kg Younger Cadets.
Also in action at the weekend was Panthers’ Taylor Brennan who finished third in the -65kg Light Contact at the Best of the Best Tournament in Roadstone.
ON another note a number of GRASP MA members are also well-placed to contest for positions on the Irish squad after the opening round of the National Senior Championships.
Coach Liam Dale at – 94kg, Paul Maguire (-74kg), Marissa McMillan (-65kg) and Emma Dignam (-55kg) are all set up nicely for the decisive second round of the championship next month.
