Residents enjoy heritage tour of quarry in SIAC
RESIDENTS of Clondalkin enjoyed a heritage walk and a tour of the quarry at SIAC as part of National Heritage Week.
Over 30 people took part in the walk on Monday, August 16 to learn about the history of the quarry. The walk was led by Denis Ryan of SIAC Construction and hosted by Clondalkin Round Tower Heritage Group.
Speaking about the event, Tom Keogh from Clondalkin Round Tower Heritage Group, said: “There was a full house, absolutely. Everyone was socially distanced, and it was well organised by SIAC – they had hi-vis jackets for everybody who participated.”
Denis Ryan spoke about what happens in the quarry and the history of it, which is located at Monastery Road.
The walk was a part of National Heritage Week, which takes place from August 15 to 23 celebrating and bringing awareness about the value of heritage and to support its conservation.
In Clondalkin, events later in the week include a ‘walk and talk’ on the Camac River, led by Pat Ging and Brian Nolan, and hosted by Friends of the Camac on Sunday, August 22 as well as other online and in person events.
“All this week there is an exhibition in the library of beautiful photographs which include the archives from the former fishing club, and that is running during library hours until Saturday – it is called the beauty of the river,” Tom told The Echo.
