Residents furious at ‘shameful’ doorstep dumping at Riversdale
NEIGHBOURS who dump waste at a green space in their estate, but never on their own doorstep, should be ashamed of their actions, according to residents dealing with the mess.
Dumping has been going on for years at Riversdale Road in Clondalkin, according to a resident living close to the rubbish pile.
Residents say authorities seem to have their hands tied in terms of taking action to fine those responsible, and one offender is alleged to have told a protesting neighbour “sure I’ve been doing this for years.”
“They don’t give a fiddlers,” said a resident.
“We’ve asked them not to dump there, that they could be prosecuted by the council. Their own houses are pristine, they don’t do it on their own doorstep,” said the man.
Cllr Francis Timmons (Ind) has made representations to the council on the issue and is concerned that dumping continues on “almost a daily basis” at Riversdale Road.
“The residents’ group work hard to keep the estate clean and tidy but some people have total disregard for their voluntary efforts by dumping
on a green space, shame on them,’’ said Timmons.
“I have asked South Dublin County Council to install no dumping signs. It has got so bad that the wall beside the green space has been damaged from rubbish. It’s beyond crazy that this situation continues on an almost daily basis.”
Residents send The Echo pictures of waste dumped at the location on a frequent basis – no sooner does the council remove it, when a new pile is soon deposited by dumpers.
“Some people think it’s allowed to dump green garden waste there, but this is the same as dumping other forms of rubbish and it is illegal,” said Timmons.
“None of us like paying for our waste disposal but we have to imagine what our community would look like if we all decided to dump our rubbish.’’
