Residents warned to be on alert for bogus collectors

Residents warned to be on alert for bogus collectors

By Maurice Garvey

BOGUS collectors pretending to be fundraising for Palmerstown Community Centre and Neilstown Community Centre, have been up to their old tricks again in recent weeks.

Recent reports have warned residents that young lads are trying to scam money from homes in the Woodfarm Acres area and on Palmerstown Avenue.

The Echo contacted both centres, and were told they do not collect money door to door.

Neilstown Community Centre verified they do not do collections, whilst Palmerstown Community Centre, said the only time they might do a collection, is if it’s advertised in the local Palmerstown monthly magazine.

“We have nothing in the magazine this month,” said an employee from the centre.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time bogus collectors have been spotted in the area, and likely it won’t be the last either.

Residents are encouraged to be vigilant, ask callers for ID, ask them questions, and check details on sponsorship cards if possible.

Palmerstown Community Centre have previously stated their frustration with this activity, which has been ongoing for years, and has the ability to trick some residents, while affecting legitimate fundraising efforts.

If anyone suspects bogus collectors operating in the area, they are encouraged to call Ballyfermot Garda Station at 6667200 or Ronanstown Garda Station at 6667700.
