Revenues increase at Liffey Valley and The Mill Centre
By Maurice Garvey
IT WAS a Merry Christmas for Liffey Valley and The Mill shopping centres, both of whom reported an increase in revenue during the busy holiday period.
Liffey Valley’s revenue in December was up four per cent, compared to the same time in 2016.
The Mill Shopping Centre in Clondalkin enjoyed a remarkable 17 per cent increase during Christmas week shopping, compared to the previous year.
Denis O’Connell, General Manager of Liffey Valley, said overall it has been a good year for the centre, something which can be attributed to a number of factors, including late night seasonal hours which ensured the 3,600 capacity car park was never empty.
“It is our best year since 2007, we are up 16.5 per cent throughout 2017, which is phenomenal,” said Mr O’Connell.
“We are coming off a high since the opening of Penney’s. The extra few days in Christmas week were helpful, opening until 11pm each night. Busy in the morning, a bit of a lull middle of the day and busy again at night.
“Overall we are quite happy, it worked a lot better for us this year. We look at the numbers on Stephen’s Day, see what worked and what didn’t work. We’ve agreed next year we will have the same opening hours (at Christmas).”
O’Connell said the centre were looking forward to exciting new plans in 2018, including the opening of a Tescos in May.
Meanwhile, The Mill Shopping Centre Manager Gerry Mulcahy praised a “very strong core” of loyal customers for ensuring it was a successful year at the centre.
Mr Mulcahy said: “Overall, it’s been a good year. We’re slightly up two per cent in the year, and a 17 per cent increase for Christmas week. It’s very positive from that point of view.
“All retailers, at least the ones that I have spoken to, are up on last year. We have a very strong core of loyal shoppers in the Clondalkin area, and we get a good response from them. Our car park with 880 spaces and late night shopping on Thursday and Friday is another positive for customers.”
The Mill opened in 1993 – anchor tenants Dunnes, Tara Jewellers, Bookstation, McLoughlin Butchers and Tuthills have been at the centre since day one.
