Risk of flooding as status orange warning remains

By Mary Dennehy

DESPITE the Red Alert being lifted, people are advised to remain cautious as a Status Orange warning remains in place until this afternoon.

As snow starts to melt across communities, the National Emergency Co-ordination Group has said that the thaw could lead to localised surface water, with people advised to watch for accumulations of water that could lead to flooding.

As services start to resume today, people are advised that despite the thaw, conditions remain treacherous in many places and to heed potential flood warnings.

People are encouraged to carefully plan any trips by foot, car or public transport and to not take any unneccesary journeys.

South Dublin County Council is out this morning getting the streets prepared for the week ahead and has urged people, if they can, to stay at home today.

Driving

AA Ireland has this morning advised anybody who has to travel to stick to the main roads and allow plenty of time.

While conditions are generally improving, there are secondary routes that remain impassable or treacherous – with a number of roads within communities such as Tallaght, Clondalkin and Lucan still impassable.

Bus

Dublin Bus is operating today and hopes to run some services until 11.30pm tonight.
