Robberies from establishments up 150 per cent in Lucan area

ROBBERIES from establishments in Lucan were up 150 per cent in 2018, the Joint Policing Committee heard.
There were five robberies from establishments in Lucan in the first eight months of 2018 and the detection rate for them was 0 per cent.
Incidents of assault causing harm were up 29 per cent with nine incidents so far in 2018. The detection rate was just 20 per cent.
The meeting was told that one of the incidents was alcohol related and five occurred in the course of domestic and personal disputes.
Burglaries were down 24 per cent with 90 incidents so far in 2018 as opposed to 119 in 2017.
Criminal damage was down 48 per cent with 75 incidents so far in 2018 compared to 143 in 2017.
Robberies from persons were down 50 per cent with three incidents so far in 2018 compared to six in 2017.
There was a drop of 44 per cent in thefts from mpv’s with 72 incidents so far in 2018 and 129 in 2017. The Gardai said that many incidents occurred where items had been left on view in the car.
Thefts from shops were down 26 per cent with 61 incidents so far in 2018 and 82 in 2017.
There was a drop of four per cent in vehicles being stolen with 46 so far in 2018 and 48 in 2017. The Gardai said that many of these incidents occurred overnight when cars were stolen from driveways.
Public order incidents were down 27 per cent with a detection rate of 79 per cent. There were 38 incidents so far in 2018 and 52 in 2017. The Gardai said there were higher detections of public order incidents as a result of increased patrols and there are a higher number of detections at weekends.
There was only one ASBO issued so far in 2018 which meant a fall of 80 per cent as five were handed out in 2017.
Incidents of possession of drugs for sale or supply stayed the same with eight incidents so far in 2018 and eight in 2017. There was a detection rate of 64 per cent.
Possession of drugs for personal use was down 15 per cent with 40 incidents so far in 2018 and 47 in 2017.
There were 192 vehicles seized under Section 41 of the Road Traffic Act so far in 2018 as opposed ot 248 seized in 2017.
There were 27 incidences of domestic disputes in 2018 a fall from 2017 when there were 36. There were no breaches of barring orders in 2018 with just one breach in 2017.
There were three breaches of safety orders in 2018 with five in 2017 and five breaches of protection orders in 2018 with four in 2017 an increase of 25 per cent.
There was a general decrease in crime across the board with the only increases being in robberies from establishments and breaches of protection orders.
A Garda Spokesman stressed the importance of Operation Irene which which involved targeted patrols on parks and open areas.
He added: “This Operation was very successful and proved a deterrent towards persons who previously engaged in anti-social and criminal activity in areas such as Griffeen Park, in the environs of the shops at Ballyowen, Hillcrest and Lucan shopping centre.
“A full policing plan will also be in Operation during the Halloween period to target such behaviour.”
