Rockets are ready to lift off in Amsterdam
THE Three Rock Rockets ParaHockey team received a rapturous send-off in the clubhouse on Grange Road prior to the team jetting off to Amsterdam to take part in the European Para-hockey Championships.
They received their Ireland shirts for the tournament from Irish International competitors Mitch Darling and Anna O’Flanagan.
The team will be representing Ireland at the event, which takes place between August 20-23.
The Rockets were formed last November, and their numbers are growing all the time.
The group has great fun at training every Tuesday, and are delighted to receive helpful tips and advice from the senior players at the club, including Irish internationals, Mitch Darling, Luke Madeley and Jamie Carr, who are heavily involved in the coaching staff of The Rockets.
This is the first time a large-scale European Para-Hockey event has been organised, with matches set to take place at Pinoké Hockey Club, and the finals being played at the nearby Wagner Stadium.
The Rockets Women’s team will be the first to take to the pitch, when they play England this Saturday, before they also face Scotland and Germany in their group.
The Men’s team play their first match against Germany on Sunday August 20, and will also do battle with Poland and England, as they too strive to make it out of the Group Stage and into the knockout rounds.
Three Rock Rockets are the first ParaHockey team to be set up in Ireland, and the success of the initiative has led to Monkstown and Railway Union hockey clubs establishing their own sides
