BoxUp lockers in local parks to encourage people to be more active

LOCKERS with sports and leisure equipment that will be available to use free of charge are set to be installed in Dodder Valley Park and Beechfield Park.

They’re part of a wider project called Active Cities, with the lockers being developed by Swiss-based company BoxUp over the last nine months.

The South Dublin County Sports Partnership is working with South Dublin County Council for the roll-out of the scheme, which they hope will encourage people to be more active.

Darragh Conway, Active Cities officer with South Dublin Sports Partnership, said: “BoxUp increases access to open spaces by providing free physical activity equipment to park users.

“This innovative project aligns perfectly with Active Cities’ goal of getting the city more active.”

Brendan Redmond from South Dublin County Council’s Public Realm Department also praised the new project, which he said will complement existing projects by the council.

“We are delighted to work closely with Active Cities and South Dublin County Sports Partnership to bring BoxUp to South Dublin,” he said.

“BoxUp compliments several new and upgraded physical activity installations and projects that have been installed by SDCC.”

The lockers will come on stream across the cities over the coming weeks.
