Summer Local: Rathfarnham Rebellion Trail and Bohernabreena Reservoir

Summer Local is proudly sponsoered by Dublin’s Outdoor’s

Bohernabreena reservoir

Dublin’s Outdoors truly unfolds before you as you enter the Glenasmole Valley, home to the Bohernabreena reservoir and the Dublin Mountains Way which hugs its shore.

Views of the highest peaks in the Dublin Mountains including Seefingan, Corrig and the highest, Kippure can be enjoyed in this area, which shares a border with the Wicklow National Park. The peaks of these nearby mountains contain archaeological sites stretching back to 5,000 years and afford spectacular views of the city and Dublin Bay.

Both the River Liffey and the River Dodder rise in the Dublin-Wicklow Mountains nearby and the Dodder flows through the reservoir.

Walkers can also enjoy riverside walks along the Dodder from the Dublin Mountains out of the reservoir and back towards the urban areas of Tallaght, Templeogue and Rathfarnham through the nearby parklands at Kiltipper and Dodder Valley Park.

Rathfarnham Rebellion Trail

The addition of Rathfarnham as a trail to the app has been funded by The Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media through their Decade of Centenaries programme, and developed in partnership with South Dublin County Council Libraries and the Council’s County Promotion Unit.

Rathfarnham is the third village trail to be added to the app, joining Clondalkin and Tallaght. The Rathfarnham Trail has 17 individual heritage points of interest in and around the village.

The combination of image, text and audio for each point of interest makes the experience both immersive and engaging for the user, bringing the social and cultural history to life. The fully interactive and user-friendly app is available in Irish, English, French and German, and by using Android or Apple maps directs users to nearby places of interest. The app is free to download to mobile phones and tablets by searching ‘South Dublin County Heritage Trail’.
