Roses aim for Dublin crown

SIX young women from the local area will be among the 31 women who are competing to be crowned the Dublin Rose at the selection convention this weekend – and the winner will then go on to represent the capital at this year’s Rose of Tralee Festival in August.
The women got a taste of Rose life last Saturday when they went on a whistlestop tour of Dublin city and county with the current Dublin Rose, Kilnamanagh woman Tanya Feighery, who will hand over her sash when this year’s Dublin Rose is crowned on Saturday evening.
Dublin Rose hopefulls
Among the hopefuls are Tallaght women Kate Phillips and Hayley Conroy, who are both 22.
Kate’s bid to be the Dublin Rose is sponsored by Greg Philips Alarms, and the healthcare worker is a passionate fan of motorsport. Hayley is sponsored by Karl Goodwin Motors and is studying early childhood care and education.
Outside of her studies, Hayley enjoys travelling, and caring for her younger sister who has special needs.
Citywest Hotel worker Orla Mongan’s (19) is being sponsored by her employer, and volunteers at Summer and Easter camps – she would like to pursue a career in social care or midwifery, as she enjoys working with children.
Sonya Beatty works in Haven Pharmacy Brennan’s in Rathfarnham, and the DCU graduate is currently studying to be a pharmacy technician. Sonya enjoys keeping fit, fundraising for charity and volunteering.
Charley White (20) is being backed by The Miss Ali Stage School – the Ballyboden Wanderers player is a performing-arts teacher who is an active supporter of women in sport and is described as being dedicated to the preservation of the Irish language.
Ballyroan woman Louise Leahy (22) is sponsored by Sonas Bathrooms, and recently graduated from the Marino Institute of Education where she studied primary school teaching. Louise volunteered as a team leader at the Special Olympics Ireland Games 2018, and is an enthusiastic sports fan.
The six women are all hoping to wow the judges in the Talbot Hotel Stillorgan this weekend, where they will be put through their paces, but only one of the 31 women will get the Dublin Rose title.
