Rovers U13s claim SFAI All-Ireland title

SHAMROCK Rovers U13s were celebrating at the weekend when they secured the SFAI All-Ireland following their 2-0 win over Pike Rovers in Cahir County Tipperary at the weekend.

Ciaran Daly was the star of the show for the winners as he scored both goals for Rovers and was named the Player of the Match winner.

Rovers played the opening half of this game without creating too many opportunities with Pike playing in long balls which was dealt with by the Rovers defence.

The Limerick side did have a great chance to break the deadlock before the interval when a free was swung in but Hoops keeper Darragh Roche was at his best to deny them a goal.

Rovers changed their formation in the second half and it paid off six minutes in. Johnny Collins headed the ball onto Bobby Seller who put Daly through and he flicked the ball to the back of the net.

With both sides creating chances, the second goal did not arrive until three minutes from the end when Daly captilaised on some Pike hesitation to cooly slot home to the back of the net.

“Overall I felt we controlled the game, possibly could have scored one or two more only for some good saves from the pike keeper and some good defending,” said Shamrock Rovers manager Andrew McCormack.

“The boys were delighted to win after Pike beat us in the semi final of the U12 SFAI last year,” he added.
