Rubbish and nappies dumped in play area in Corkagh Park

CHILDREN discovered an unpleasant sight when they arrived at a playground in Corkagh Park recently – due to a bag containing domestic rubbish and nappies dumped beside the play area.
A resident who took pictures of the illegally dumped waste, felt the playground should have been closed until the mess was cleaned up.
“There was about 20 kids there at the time, why did they open the playground if they hadn’t the staff to clean it?” said the resident.
Teresa Walsh, Director of Environment, Water and Climate Change, South Dublin County Council said the incident is “currently under investigation.”
“It is disappointing to see this kind of illegal behaviour happening in any part of our county, but especially in Corkagh Park which has just recently been awarded a prestigious Green Flag Award,” said Ms Walsh.
“Corkagh Park was one of 36 public parks from across the country to achieve a Green Flag award in 2017.
“Parks are judged against acknowledged international best practice and standards on a number of criteria including cleanliness, horticultural standards, community involvement, sustainability and providing a warm welcome.
“The attainment of the award reflected the commitment and skill of our staff who work hard to make sure that our parks are a pleasure to visit all year round.”
