John McDermott

John previously lived in Coolingmartin House, Timahoe, Co Wicklow. He was a past pupil of Terenure College.

John first got involved in Clondalkin RFC in 1975.  He was instrumental in building the underage groups and served on the general committee up to 1979.

Indeed, on occasions the club played a number of rugby matches in fields adjoining his house near Mondello.

He was then elected Vice President and served as President in 1980/81. His good pal Bob Booth (RIP) followed him as President the following season.

In earlier years he was a regular attender at games and events in the club and was usually accompanied by his beloved late wife Irene.

In 1989/90 John and Bob both served at Joint Treasurers. They continued in this role until 1991/2.

Coming so soon after the recent death of his good friend and fellow Past President Chris McGlinn, their departures leave a void in the club that will be hard to fill.
