Rumble in Clondalkin back after a decade
RUMBLE in Clondalkin returned with a bang, with local clubs reigniting the event for its fifth edition after a decade on ice.
Hosted by BMA Clondalkin, the event made a return to act as somewhat of a fundraiser for the club’s elite junior members who have been selected to represent Ireland at the WAKO European Championships, which starts this weekend in Istanbul, Turkey.
Held in the Clayton Hotel in Liffey Valley, the first Rumble in Clondalkin since February 2013 went off without a hitch on August 12.
A total of 35 fights took place on the prestigious fight night, with the card jam-packed by 12 different clubs from around Ireland, including local outfits. Tallaght MA had 10 competitors, with Lucan-based Team Revolution had eight and BMA Clondalkin had 18 kickboxers fighting on the night.
Other clubs invited on the night were Hybrid Martial Arts from Dundalk, Whitehall Martial Arts based in Whitehall, Hurricane Martial Arts from Offaly, Elite Fighter from Santry, Eagle Martial Arts in Bray, IMKA from Coolock and the BMA affiliated clubs from Leixlip, Enfield and Naas.
The first half of the night kicked off with 16 bouts ranging with Younger and Older Cadets followed by a raffle draw and an auction of signed Katie Taylor boxing gloves.
17 fights of Junior and Senior competitors then immediately continued, with Clondalkin’s elite duo headlining the main events.
Sean Hawkins and Louise Shortt, who are current National Kickboxing Champions, headlined the card representing BMA Clondalkin.
Hawkins was the final fight on the card and he ended the night in style, with a win against Dillon King from Tallaght MA via unanimous decision.
Among other winners from the Clondalkin club were Emilia Douglas, Robert Dryja, Roan Derwin, Robert Barrett, and Rachel.
Team Revolution fighters Jamie Walsh, Artue Roenick and Jamie Lambe all won their respective bouts against Clondalkin fighters.
