Run up to Halloween starting early for Dublin Fire Brigade

By Laura Lyne

DUBLIN Fire Brigade this week confirmed that the “run up to Halloween” has started for its local firefighters with “a lot more combustible materials” being stored around Dublin as they tackled two fires in local industrial units.

Firefighters tackled a blaze for over two hours in the Robinhood Industrial Estate in Clondalkin on the night of Saturday, September 19.

The fire took place at a storage yard inside the industrial estate and involved a tyre and container fire that was responded to by three units from the Tallaght and Dolphin's Barn fire stations.

Images of the firefighters stopping the blaze using foam were posted online by the Dublin Fire Brigade, and showed smoke surrounding the area.

It was later confirmed that no injuries were reported following the incident, and that the fire services were first called at 10.30pm with the incident closed by 12.52am.

On Sunday, September 20 Dublin Fire Brigade confirmed online that four units from Tallaght and Dolphin’s Barn fire stations also reported to a fire near Ballymount.

It was also confirmed this week that DFB firefighters will refuse to work voluntary overtime for four days in October in response to staffing levels.

They will withdraw from voluntary overtime on Monday October 5, Tuesday October 6, Wednesday October 7 and Friday October 9.
