Sarsfields set for busy campaign

LUCAN Sarsfields are gearing up for the reignition of the women’s league for their LGFA sides with their Senior side’s opening game against Kilmacud Crokes this Wednesday in Division 2.

The side have had two cup games to prepare themselves for the fixtures with a win against Templeogue Synge Street and a defeat to Fingallians.

There is a good mood headed into the start of the new season with this squad ready to attack all competitions.

Manager Neil Daly touched on the mindset of the management team heading into the new league season.

“Our aim is to get promoted into Division 1. The league is being approached game by game and we’re just going to see how it goes. With a young team you run into the difficulties of them all being students. Exams and stuff like that are coming up. It’s a hard thing to call at this stage as it all depends on the players that we have available to us. That being said, last year we finished fourth and before that finished fifth so I’d fancy us to be up there in the top half and beyond.”

The squad for Lucan this year is extremely young with an average age between 21-22 with plenty of players younger also involved.

Daly touched on the continued importance of the minor sides within the club for providing new talent for the senior team with this most recent crop of players being no exception.

“I’ve been extremely fortunate that this is now my fifth year managing the side and every year I’ve been able to call up at least three or four players from the Minors into the team.”

The side also have ambitions to reach a final in the championship after bowing out in the semi final on the last two occasions.
