Scholarships worth €40k go to eight first-year students

SCHOLARSHIPS worth a total of €40,000 have been awarded to eight first-year students in TU Dublin-Tallaght Campus.
Three years ago, South Dublin County Council entered into an agreement with TU Dublin-Tallaght, to fund an Access to Third Level Scholarship Programme.

The Programme was developed to encourage students from disadvantaged areas of the county to progress to third-level education, by funding any additional expenses they may incur.
The Scholarships are made every year to eight first-year TU Dublin-Tallaght Campus students, with one recipient from each of the university’s local Access Links Schools and two recipients from Colleges of Further Education.
The Scholarship is awarded to the student who achieves the highest points in the Leaving Certificate/FETAC examination in the year in question.
The total Scholarship award is €5,000, paid over two years to each successful student to assist towards the costs of third-level education.
The student will receive €2,500 in first year and an additional €2,500 on progression to second year (maximum award is for two years).
The recipients this year were Jessica Carey from St Aidan’s Community School, Karlo Prunker from Killinarden Community School, Sophie Grogan from Mount Seskin Community College, Ryan Thorpe from Deansrath Community College, Jada Greene from St Kevin’s Community College, Craig Devitt from Collinstown Community College, Joanne Byrne from Greenhills College of Further Education and Shane Butler from Tallaght Adult Education Service.
Last Friday, they were presented with their Scholarships by the Mayor of South Dublin, Vicki Casserly and the Principal of TU Dublin-Tallaght, Thomas Stone.
