School patronage awarded to DDLETB ruling body

PATRONAGE for the new secondary school for Citywest and Saggart, which is due to open in September of next year, has been awarded to the Dublin and Dun Laoghaire Education and Training Board (DDLETB).
A site for the 1,000 pupil secondary school has been secured on Fortunestown Lane, subject to planning permission, and five patron bodies, including the DDLETB, had applied for patronage of the school.

These bodies included An Foras Pátrunachta, Catholic Education-An Irish Schools Trust (CEIST), Educate Together and Scoil Sinead Limited.
The deciding factor for which body would be awarded patronage was a vote that was open to the parents and guardians of children due to enrol in a post-primary school in the area between 2020 and 2024, and who live in one of the school planning areas.
DDLETB got the majority of votes from parents and guardians in the locality, and are now looking ahead to developing their new post-primary school to serve the communities of Citywest and Saggart.
Paddy Lavelle, Chief Executive of DDLETB said: “This is a fantastic development for the communities in Citywest-Saggart.
“The new school will join the 29 other Community Colleges under our patronage.
“We see the results of this campaign as a welcome endorsement, from parents and families, for ETB-run schools and the Community College model.
“Parents clearly supported our vision for child-centred, multidenominational, publicly-accountable schools which strive to provide high-quality education for all learners. They give equal opportunities to all children.”
Local secondary schools such as Lucan Community College and St MacDara’s Community College in Templeogue are under DDLETB patronage.
Adrian Flynn, Director of Schools with DDLETB, said: “The new school will be technologically advanced, using the latest Information and communication technologies. [The new school] will further embed our presence on the educational landscape in Dublin.”
