Scramblers wreck rugby club pitch with donut marks
By Aimee Walsh
A PITCH used by Tallaght Football Rugby Club has been destroyed by scrambler bikes.
One of the pitches in Tymon Park has been left severely damaged with deep muddy marks and donut marks caused by scrambler bikes.

The pitch is usually used by Tallaght Rugby Football Club for training, but is currently out of use due to Covid-19 restrictions.
A spokesperson for Tallaght Rugby Football club told The Echo; “We are very disappointed to see this happen. As our local community are aware, we don’t have grounds to call our own.
“We are very grateful and appreciative for the pitches and facilities provided for us that allow us to function as a club.
“The last year has been tough for everyone. We are such a tight-knit rugby family and it has been hard to have matches cancelled and training postponed, so it is very disappointing to see this.
“We pride ourselves on our connections to the local community and it is sad to see this destruction at a time where we are all supposed to be working together.”
Jim O’Connor, Honorary President and Fixtures Secretary of the club said it is “dispiriting” to hear about the pitch being destroyed.
“There have been incidents before once or twice. Personally, I think scramblers should be banned. I even get nervous. I live close enough to the park and I walk through it everyday and even if I hear a scrambler, I get nervous. I do not know how they are even legal, or how they are not confiscated by the Guards quite frankly.
“In the past, the posts have been rammed by them and they were damaged, and the pitch has been targeted. This time of the year when it is so wet it is going to cause even more damage,” Jim added.
The Echo contacted South Dublin County Council but a response was not received in time for print.
