Second cremator unit possible for Newlands

PERMISSION is being sought for the installation of a second cremator within the existing crematorium building in Newlands Cross Cemetery and Crematorium.

It is noted in the planning application that the machine will be powered by electricity and will be located beside the building’s existing cremator unit.

Internal alterations to the building include the removal of non-load-bearing block walls to facilitate the new unit.

An extension to the west side of the building to provide staff changing facilities and a cremulator room (20.2 sq m) form part of the plans, as does an extractor system to be connected to the existing flue.

Permission is also being sought for the partial demolition of an existing boundary wall to facilitate a new sub-station/switch room and the laying of underground ducts for an ESB connection.

A decision on the application for planning permission is due from South Dublin County Council by February 20.
