Secret Lives of Henry & Alice show coming to Ballyboden St Enda’s

By Aideen O'Flaherty

AFTER performing a sold-out three-night run of The Secret Lives of Henry and Alice in Dundrum’s Mill Theatre last April, the Rathfarnham Theatre Group will now be bringing their popular performance to Ballyboden St Enda’s for two nights this month.

The Rathfarnham Theatre Group, which was founded in 1991 and now has approximately 40 members, will have two of the group’s members, Eddie Quinn and Ellen O’Brien, at the forefront of the two-person play in the starring roles of Henry and Alice.

The play, which is an adult comedy, was written by David Tristram and sees the lines between fantasy and reality become blurred, where only the audience and the couple’s ever-present pet goldfish, Orca, will know the true story of what has happened.

Maria Burke King from the Rathfarnham Theatre Group told The Echo: “The performance in The Mill went really, really well, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed that our performance in St Enda’s will be a success too.

“I think the secret is if you can bring the audience with you from the beginning of the play they’ll stay with it throughout the performance.”

Maria added: “It’s a well-written play. I think there’s no point in putting a lot of work into a play if the writing isn’t good.”

Eddie Quinn and Ellen O’Brien will take on 15 different characters each during the course of the play, and they are looking forward to treading the boards again and embodying the characters they’ve become so familiar within a new venue.

Maria said: “We got fantastic feedback from the performance in The Mill, and the two actors were amazing – it really all came together and we couldn’t have asked for more, the audience really enjoyed it.

“The cast is delighted to be bringing the show to St Enda’s, every venue is something new.”

The Rathfarnham Theatre Group’s performance of The Secret Lives of Henry and Alice will take place in the clubhouse in Ballyboden St Enda’s GAA Club on Wednesday, June 27 and Thursday, June 28, at 8pm with tickets costing €10.
