Shane ready for busy run of gigs
A TALLAGHT musician is gearing up for a busy Paddy’s Day week in Austria following the release of his new album ‘They Might See Dolphins’.
Shane Ó Fearghail, who is originally from Tallaght but has been based in Austria for the past few years, will also be releasing his new single ‘Faerie Tree’ during the Paddy’s Day celebrations.
The musician, whose music has been described as indie-folk, explained that ‘Faerie Tree’ is about the relationship between Oisín and Niamh as part of Irish folklore and mythology in Tír na nÓg.
When asked about how the song was written, Shane told The Echo: “I was in Southern Austria, and the area looks quite similar to Ireland and it’s quite Celtic.
“I was missing home, and the song just sprung out of being on the road and missing Ireland, while being in a place that reminded me of home.
Shane described the album’s overall sound as “quite earthy and nature based”, and added that the release of the album in Austria will coincide with his Paddy’s Day gigs.
The gigs will bring a bit of Irish charm to Vienna, and when asked what it’s like to be an Irish musician in Austria, the past pupil of Tallaght Community School said: “It’s different, in Ireland we’re spoiled for choice with Irish musicians.
“As a singer-songwriter coming from Ireland the bar is set very high.”
Shane added that the Paddy’s Day gigs will appeal to Austrians and Irish people alike, and he said that now when he plays gigs his music is getting through to the locals in Austria, and not just Irish people.
‘They Might See Dolphins’ has already been released in Ireland, and more details on Shane’s music and upcoming gigs are available online at www.shaneofearghail.com
