DARKNESS into light will take place this Saturday, May 8 to raise important funds for mental health charity Pieta House.

This year’s Darkness into Light 2021 will be slightly different as Covid-19 restrictions are still in place. People are invited to take part in the annual event by walking, running, hiking, swimming, cycling or simply sharing a sunrise together.

The annual event is Pieta House’s main fundraiser and raises awareness for suicide and self-harm while raising much needed funds for Pieta House’s services such as free counselling to those with suicidal thoughts or those engaging in self-harm or bereaved by suicide.

Raising funds for the mental health charity is more important than ever in today’s climate.

Elaine Austin, CEO of Pieta House, said that in 2020, Pieta received over 70,000 crisis calls and texts asking for help through the helpline, and they delivered 52,000 hours of therapy.
