Shop employee accused of stealing €2k of electrical goods from store
A SHOP employee has been accused of stealing more than €2,000 worth of electrical goods from the store where he worked.
Mark Byrne was allegedly found with the stolen property during a routine check on staff leaving the shop, Blanchardstown District Court heard.

Mr Byrne, aged 25, with an address at Woodview Heights, Lucan, is charged with theft at DID, Lucan Road.
Garda Sergeant Maria Callaghan told Judge David McHugh the DPP was consenting to the case being dealt with summarily at district court level subject to the issue of jurisdiction being considered.
Outlining the allegations, she said gardai attended a call to DID on January 20 this year, where they spoke to the manager.
They were told it was discovered during a routine check on employees leaving the store in the evening that an employee had taken items from the shop.
It was alleged the accused took electrical items worth a combined €2,149 and the goods were all recovered and saleable, Sgt Callaghan said.
Judge McHugh accepted jurisdiction for the case to be heard in the district court.
He ordered disclosure of prosecution statements, along with any CCTV to the defence and adjourned the case to March 25, for compliance with the order. The judge granted free legal aid following an application by Mr Byrne’s solicitor William Cadogan, who said his client was unemployed.
The accused was not present in court and was remanded on continuing bail in his absence to March 25.
He has not yet entered a plea to the charge.
