Shop owner Santosh Kumar with shop assistant Theresa Doran after they sold last Friday night's winning ticket

Santosh Kumar took over the running of the Mace Store on Peter’s Road Walkinstown two weeks ago, and within his first ten days of business sold a €500,000 winning EuroMillions Plus ticket – which was for last Friday’s draw (August 24).

A spokesperson for the National Lotto has today confirmed to The Echo that the lucky winner has come forward.

Mr Kumar, who is originally from India, said: “We only became a National Lottery agent [last] week so it’s a complete shock to us!

“We have just finished installing our lottery terminal in the store so to have a massive win like this almost immediately is just fantastic for us.

“Most importantly however, it is a great reward for one of my new customers who has supported me in this business from the very start.

“The majority of our customers are from the local area so we wish them every success with the win.”

According to the National Lottery, nearly 30 cent in every €1 spent on all National Lottery games goes back to good causes in the areas of sport, youth, health, community, arts, heritage and the Irish language.

In total, more than €5 billion has been raised for good causes since the National Lottery was established 30 years ago.
