SOUTH Dublin County Council will launch the Shopfront Grant Scheme for 2019 in the coming weeks.

The scheme is intended to improve the appearance of independently owned shops fronting public streets.

Grants up to a maximum of €8,500 are available (50 per cent of the overall cost of works).

If the overall approved costs of a project is €1,000, the shop owner pays €500 and SDCC pays €500.

Grants are available for simple projects such as painting your shop, replacing signage or even replacing an entire shopfront.

Freyne’s Pharmacy in Clondalkin village won the award for best Shopfront in 2018.

Speaking about the launch of the scheme, Fianna Fáil TD John Curran has called on local retailers in the villages of Tallaght, Clondalkin, Lucan, Palmerstown, Rathcoole and Saggart to apply for the grant.

“It is a very worthwhile grant scheme for local retailers and their business and for our local village’s appearance and the community.

“There is a closing date for application for this grant in March and I am hoping those interested do not miss out, and so I am calling on local retailers to keep an eye out for the council’s launch of this scheme in the coming weeks.”

To apply for the scheme, retailers can complete an application form online by visiting www.sdcc.ie.
