Shut Your Cakehole – Comedian Joe Rooney performs at the Civic theatre
By Tiana Binns
Despite the comedy’s name, ‘Shut Your Cakehole’, comedian Joe Rooney invites everyone on February 27 to participate and engage in his musical comedy hybrid for a silly night of stand-up in the Main Space at the Civic Theatre in Tallaght.
“I love engaging with the audience – when it works, it’s really amazing and 95 per cent of the time it works,” Joe said in an interview with The Echo.

Joe performed his show, ‘Shut Your Cakehole’, at the 2019 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the world’s largest arts festival, generating fantastic reviews.
Joe’s comedy is based on musical storytelling and interaction with the audience – UK comedy guide, Chortle, dubs his comedy, singing and character-acting to be ‘on another level’.
A successful actor and writer, Joe has also acted in long-running RTÉ sitcom, Killinaskully, as Timmy, and in the British-made sitcom, Father Ted, as Father Damo.
He starred in the CBBC series Roy, got a five-star review in the theatre version of The Shawshank Redemption and was voted Best Comedian 2017 at the Pure M Awards among many other accomplishments.
He has been a headline act in venues all over Britain and Ireland for many years including; The Stand (Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle), The Empire (Belfast) and Laughter Lounge (Dublin). He has also headlined clubs in China, Kansas City, Dubai, Moscow and Bahrain.
Joe approaches stand-up ‘organically’ as he said: “Each show I do is different. With each performance, there is perfecting done to the jokes and honing in depending on the audience. The process never really stops.”
During ‘Shut Your Cakehole’, Joe will also have a few local Tallaght guest performers come on stage with him, so stay tuned and make sure you get your tickets to this surreal musical stand-up experience.
‘Shut Your Cakehole’, performed by Joe Rooney, is presented by Mucky Mud Productions.
