Six new local school wardens appointed

UP TO six new school wardens have been appointed by South Dublin County Council for the coming year.

Schools set to benefit include Gaelscoil Eiscir Riada and Adamstown Community College in Lucan, St Pius X in Terenure, and Scoil Chaitlín Maude in Killinarden.

Sinn Féin councillor Danny O’Brien said: “These new school wardens will be a great help for children walking to school in all these areas.

“Hopefully this will lead to more children walking to school and will take some traffic off the roads at peak times. All these school wardens will be in place for the start of the new school year.

“I welcome this news, especially with two Lucan schools on the list. I have been working with residents trying to get more school wardens for more of the schools in Lucan.

“There has been a big increase in the number of children walking to school and this will make it safer for these children.

“The council has had problems with recruiting staff in Lucan, but now, after a new recruitment programme, these staff are now in place.

“Hopefully more schools in Lucan will be added to the school warden programme in the coming year.”
