Annette Plunkett from Saggart won €37,000 including a car on last Saturday’s Winning Streak Game Show on RTÉ. At the presentation of the winners’ cheques were (from left) – Marty Whelan (Winning Streak game show co-host), Annette Plunkett (winning player), Maebh Gleeson (National Lottery) and Sinead Kennedy (Winning Streak game show co-host). The winning ticket was bought from Dunnes Stores, in Citywest

She spoke of how, only a week ago, she had just settled in for a Saturday evening of studying with her daughter Ciara.

Both are in third-level education at the moment, but their night of learning was ruined when Ciara’s phone rang and she was told that her mum was selected for Winning Streak.

After that, Annette’s phone exploded with calls and didn’t stop until about midnight. She has found it difficult to concentrate on her studies ever since.

Annette has described her life since last weekend as “madness”. People kept stopping her in the street and at work to wish her the best of luck and congratulate her. Annette is a special needs teacher in Stepping Stones school in the Belfry in Saggart.

As well as working full-time, Annette is also studying for her QQI level 6 degree in childcare at An Cosán in Tallaght, where she attends lectures two nights a week. She also wants to pursue a Master’s Degree in Childcare once the degree is done.

She has two children, Ciara (19), who is doing her degree in social care, and son Patrick is in fifth year in school. Both were looking forward to cheering their mum on from the studio audience this weekend.

Annette says that with her winnings the first thing she would like to do is to treat her two children to a holiday as it’s been a few years since the last one.
