St Anne’s minor ladies celebrate championship success
ST ANNE’S were celebrating on Saturday when they secured the Minor Ladies Division Five Championship in Bohernabreena.
The home side put together a solid performance as they brushed aside the challenge of O’Dwyer’s 4-9 to 3- 8 in a well-contested encounter.
Having lost to O’Dwyer’s in the opening round of the championship, it did not look good for Anne’s in the opening stages when they conceded two goals and a point.
However, Anne’s inspired by Mya Clare came storming back to lead by four points at the interval.
Clare grabbed the first goal for St Anne’s, after running the length of the pitch, followed up with another goal before Cara Jones broke through for a point to stun the Balbriggan outfit.
There was no let up in the scoring for Anne’s in the second half with both Clare and Barnes netting further goals while Amy Tyrrell, Jones, Abbey Doran and Katie Doran fired over points.
Captained by Cara Barnes, Anne’s pushed forward with Amy Tyrrell at midfield and Abaigh Pollock in the half back line impressing.
On their way to the final, Anne’s overcame Ballyboden St Enda’s B and Ballymun Kickhams.
“We are absolutely thrilled to come away with this title,” said mentor Mark Pollock who runs the team with his daughter Ava and son Ciaran.
“The team have worked so hard this season and to secure the title in brilliant,” he added.
Anne’s U15s and U16s have also reached the semi-finals of their respective championships.
