
St Jude’s keep Shankill scoreless to win Shield
ST JUDE’S ladies turned in a clinical display to land the Junior ‘H’ Football Shield as they crushed Shankill B 8-14 to 0-0 in the decider in Tymon Park.
Although some of the settled players did most of the damage in terms of scoring, it was the doggedness and will of the minor contingent in their side that saw Jude’s lift the prize last Wednesday.

Goalkeeper Emma O’Byrne set the tone for the occasion when she pulled off a classy save from a goal attempt by a Shankill forward, also plucking multiple high balls out of the sky throughout the half to snuff out any advances.
The Templeogue outfit saw their reliable full-forward Ciara Tyrrell run riot in the game, kicking the bulk of their scores.
It was his first goal of three however that took the cherry when she picked up the ball from deep and made a short run to the 20-metre line to unleash a wicked strike to the net.
Ciara Hayes and Sadhbh Smith joined their fellow full-forward on the scoresheet as their side powered into a 5-6 to 0-0 lead by the break.
Although the game was all but over by the recess, Shankill still re-emerged strong in an effort to make some in-roads into their opponents’ massive advantage.
But they were met by the ever-present youth of Niamh Murphy and Dearbhla Brogan in the half-back line, who never tired as they ran down their opposition to turn over play on several occasions.
Another player playing up from minor, Sorcha Quinn, put in a solid performance in midfield as her side got their hands on silverware to round out the year.
