St Mark’s aiming to thrive on league front

ST MARK’S GAA are set for their upcoming league campaign for their ladies football team with the leagues across Dublin kicking back into action this Wednesday.

The current ladies football team for the club was only formed in 2023, managed by Hayden Moore the team was set to play their first league game of the campaign this Wednesday against Naomh Olaf.

Olaf’s however conceded the game which now means all attention is turned towards next week’s fixture against Fingallians.

While the team aims to be competitive throughout the season in both the league and championship, the real aim for the Women’s section in Mark’s at the moment is to establish a sense of solidity, consolidating the team in a position that it will be able to thrive and continue over the coming years.

Moore elaborated on this further.

“We do want to challenge and win everything but it can’t be the priority.

‘If we’re going to win we want to win in the right way and do things in the right way.

‘If we just do things for the short term results it isn’t going to be sustainable.

‘We’re just trying to focus on the mindset. It’s cliche nowadays but we’re trying to instill in the team that if even the manager’s couldn’t be there, there would be a sustainable system in place for the girls to almost look after themselves.”

The team does have ambitions of improving on previous results this year with the last two campaigns seeing them reach a championship semi final in consecutive years.

“We want the club to be a place that’s happy, healthy and sustainable.

‘We want Marks to be somewhere that players can come and have a bit of craic but also feel that they are going somewhere and that they are progressing themselves and the team is moving forward.

‘Our ultimate goal would be to push towards Junior A/Intermediate football in the next few years.

‘We’d like to be up there soon because that’s where we feel that Marks belongs.

‘We were playing Senior Football when we had a women’s team in the late 2000s.”
