St Mary’s tops in Citywest Spooky Moos competition
By Brendan Grehan
St Mary’s National School in Saggart were the winners of the Citywest Spooky Moos competition.
As part of Halloweeen this year, Citywest held a unique art competition. Instead of pen and paper or colouring books, six local schools were given the opportunity to paint their very own “Spooky Moo” a lifesize fiberglass scary calf.
Each school had their own scary name for their calf.
Citywest and Saggart Community National School had “Freddy Mooger”, Citywest ETNS had “Jack-cow-lantern”, St Aidan’s SNS had “Gertie Ghoooul”, Scoil Aoife CNS had “Clarabelle Cowb-web”, St Kilian’s Junior School had “Cowella de Vil” and St Mary’s National School painted “Bessie Bones”.
A herd of white calves left Citywest before Halloween and the students had two weeks to create their scariest calf.
The Spooky Moos were then displayed in Citywest Shopping Centre from October 17 to October 31 where customers could vote on their favourite.
“Bessie Bones” from St Mary’s Saggart was the overall winner and the school won a prize of €250 to purchase art supplies.
