Staff at Brookfield Youth and Community Centre issued with notice of immediate redundancy
Staff at the Brookfield Youth and Community Centre in Tallaght are tonight staging a sit-in protest, which they say will continue indefinitely, after they were issued with notice of immediate redundancy this afternoon.
The six staff were informed of the news this afternoon by the Chairman of Brookfield Youth and Community Centre Limited – the company who manage and staff the centre.

In the letter the management company said: “It is with regret that we must inform you Brookfield Youth and Community Centre Limited will cease trading on 29th September.”
They went on to say they had no other choice but to make the staff redundant with immediate effect – while they said each member of staff would receive four weeks payment.
Speaking tonight from the centre, Fianna Fail Councillor, Charlie O’Connor said the swift turn of events has left the staff in shock.
Union representatives are to meet with staff on Saturday morning according to Cllr O’Connor, who said the staff are determined to stay in the building.
Speaking to Echo.ie, he said: “As the staff understand, the building is owned by South Dublin County Council, but it is the management company who staff and run the centre.
“They are obviously shocked, and the closure has caused lots of disruption for the wider community.”
