Stapleton links up with West Ham
FORMER Cherry Orchard and Shelbourne player Jessie Stapleton has signed for English side West Ham United.
The Ballyfermot player, who is only 18- years-old, makes the move to London from League of Ireland Women’s Premier League side Shelbourne, where she helped the side to a league and cup double and featured 71 times, scoring 21 goals.
The talented midfielder who also plays in defence, earned her first senior cap for her country at the age of 17 and is the current captain of the U19s.
Stapleton joins Rehanne Skinner’s side as they prepare for the 2023/24 Barclays Women’s Super League season, and Stapleton is looking forward to playing in the WSL.
“I’m delighted to join West Ham United”, she told the clubs website.
“It’s a massive honour for me to sign for this Club. It’s been a dream of mine since I was a little kid to sign for a professional team and I can’t wait to get going.
“Every player growing up now wants to play in the WSL, it’s one of the biggest and best leagues in the world.
“You watch the games every weekend over in Ireland.
“There seems to be a great bunch of girls here at West Ham and I’m excited to get started with pre-season training ahead of the new season.”
