Stock runs low in local shops

By Mary Dennehy

THERE’S been long queues outside a number of local shops since early this morning, with some stores being forced to close soon as they run out of stock.

When the Centra in Springfield opened its shutters this morning, people were already waiting – with locals buying everything from bread to milk and chocolate goodies to water.

Speaking with The Echo around 1.30pm this afternoon, Sarah, the store manager in Springfield, said: “Unfortunately we’re running out of stock so, have to start closing.

“We would love to stay open but we are running out of stock, so by the time some of the people queing outside get into the shop there will be nothing left.”

She added: “People are buying absolutely everything and people were queuing before we even opened the shutters at 10am this morning.”.

The Spar in Woodstown Knocklyon is also busy this afternoon, with the queue running out onto the Ballycullen Road.

In a post on the Woodstown Village Knocklyon Facebook page,  locals thanked staff for opening up – with special praise going to their breakfast rolls.

Long queues have also being reported outside the Apple Green garage in Jobstown.

As local shops run low on stock, people are advised to contact shops before venturing out to ensure they are still open – and have items to sell.

Neighbours are encouraged to check on each other, especially older residents, to see if anybody is in need of essential supplies.
