Students discover the power of reading to maintain good health

The Academic Primary Care Collaborative welcomed 38 pupils from third class from St Anne’s Primary School to meet teaching staff from Trinity’s School of Medicine, in Tallaght Library, reports Sihame Saady.

Joined by children’s book author Debbie Thomas, and illustrator Eva Kelly, the students discovered the power of reading to maintain good health.

Students of the Medicine Programme at Trinity College of Dublin explained to the children, through readings, the importance and necessity of reading to maintain health.

The APCC is a public health partnership that gathers a group of public health organisations such as Trinity College School of Medicine’s Discipline of Public Health and Primary Care, Tallaght Cross General Practice, Health Service Executive primary care services in the Russell Centre and the Tallaght University Hospital.

According to a spokesperson of the APCC: “The vision for the APCC is to contribute to a future, in which Tallaght is a community where no one is left behind and everyone shares good health.”

As a reminder, the APCC’s action areas are diverse; they include service needs, advocacy, research and education.

To wrap up the meeting and encourage the pupils to adopt the reading as a beneficial habit, each child received a library card and a tote-bag in which to store their precious books.
