
Students win scholarships to attend Gaeltacht in Donegal

THREE STUDENTS from Tallaght have won scholarships to attend a Gaeltacht summer college in Donegal.
Danielle Ní Mhathúna,Tara de Brett, and Kyle McKeeve, all members of the Irish language youth club Club Óige Feachtas Tamhlachta, have each won a full scholarship.

Both girls attend the Irish language secondary school Coláiste de hÍde and Kyle attends Old Bawn Community School.
Feachtas teamed up with Coláiste Aoidh Mhic Bhricne, an Irish language summer college in south west Donegal to offer the scholarships.
Tara and Kyle won the lucrative award after their Gaeltacht video was chosen from a large number of entries.
Danielle won her scholarship after her essay was chosen from a large number of entries.
The judges commended the high standard of submissions which was open to all Feachtas youth clubs across Dublin.
The scholarship covers the entire costs associated with a Gaeltacht course including; registration, board, and course fees.
Loretta Ní Churraighín, Feachtas Manager, says that the scholarship will provide Danielle,Tara and Kyle with a great opportunity to enjoy and learn Irish in a fun and authentic environment in Donegal.
Deserving winners
She told The Echo: “We are delighted to provide Tara, Danielle and Kyle with this opportunity to attend the Gaeltacht. Their winning video entry and essay impressed the judges.
“They are all deserving winners. I would also like to thank The Department of Youth and Children Affairs, Foras na Gaeilge and Dublin and Dun Laoghaire Education Training Board that support the club with funding.”
Feachtas are a national youth organisation which aims to promote the Irish language for young people and to support their personal and social development by providing a worthwhile, enjoyable and challenging programme of events and activities created with the young people.
Club Óige Feachtas is a youth club, based in Scoil Santain Tallaght for young Irish speakers aged 10-16.
The club is held on Monday nights, during the school year from 6.30-8pm.
